Upstream is an allied health practice in Grote St, Adelaide. Upstream is building a holistic team of allied health professionals committed to providing a high quality, integrated and collaborative service, tailored to meet individual needs.
The concept of Upstreaming is to deal with problems at the source, allowing people to flow more smoothly through life and deal with any obstacles that may arise.
As well as having a strong and experienced treatment arm, Upstream has an equally strong proactive focus which aims to create a buffer around clients, assisting them to navigate the challenges and difficulties of life. Our proactive program includes a range of groups, classes and information sessions such as mindfulness, yoga classes, parent-child art workshops and perinatal groups.
We aim to create a calm, nurturing and welcoming environment whilst being an upbeat, innovative practice. We value high levels of professionalism in combination with a sense of playfulness and fun.
KAREN DAVIES Director & Clinical Psychologist
Karen Davies is the Director of Upstream health and a Clinical Psychologist. She has experience working in a wide range of areas and has special interests in Perinatal Mental Health, Anxiety Disorders and Child Psychology.
TIM FISCHER Clinical Psychologist
Tim Fischer is a Clinical Psychologist who is highly skilled in working with adults. Tim brings a respectful, skillful and flexible approach to support clients experiencing a diverse range of challenges and mental health concerns. Tim draws upon a range of modalities including ACT, CBT, Schema Therapy, and Mindfulness, and provides support and treatment for a range of conditions.
Tim also works in partnership with parents to support children who are experiencing mood, emotional or behavioral concerns.
Tim is a trained facilitator for the Circle of Security parenting program.
DR ZOE STEELE Osteopath
As an Osteopath, Zoe uses a range of manual therapy techniques in treatment, as well as breathing assessment, movement and exercise prescription. She holds a Diploma of and Cert IV in Clinical Pilates, and is trained in Integrative Breathing Therapy. Zoe is an academic tutor at the University of South Australia, teaching anatomy, physiology and academic writing. She is registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency and is a member of Osteopathy Australia.
AMANDA PICKERING Clinical Psychologist
Mandy is a Clinical Psychologist who provides a client-centred approach using evidence-based interventions, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She has experience across a wide range of difficulties including, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, emotion dysregulation, eating disorders, PTSD and addictions. Mandy has expertise in working with adolescents and provides in-school psychology services to Adelaide Botanic High School.
ELENA WILLIAMS Acupuncturist
Elena is an Acupuncturist and Naturopath with over 25 years experience in health care. Training initially as a Naturopath, Elena has also completed a Masters in Acupuncture and now enjoys incorporating Acupuncture into her treatments for a more wholistic approach to health for her clients.
The past few years have seen Elena further explore Japanese acupuncture techniques, providing clients with a very gentle effective approach to treatments. Scalp Acupuncture is another specialised technique offered by Elena and is used in management of chronic central nervous disorders. The immediacy of positive change experienced by clients in a treatment is an ongoing inspiration and motivation for Elena in her work. Her treatment specialisations are chronic disease, stress management and post cancer care including neuropathy.
DR REZA NEJAD Clinical Psychologist
Dr Reza Nejad is a clinical psychologist. He holds Doctorate Degree in psychology from the University of Adelaide. He works as a private practitioner, clinical researcher, and lecturer. He has worked in government, community, and private practice settings with adolescents, adults and older adults struggling with complex psychological difficulties. Academically he has published widely in areas that include: mental health, addiction and music therapy. His approach to therapy draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness.
He has experience working with a variety of presentations, including:
• Problems in adjusting to major life changes; stress or trauma;
• Anxiety, worry or fear;
• Depressed or low mood, or suicidal thinking;
• Too much energy, being unable to sleep, wind down or relax;
• Obsessional thinking;
• Feeling on edge or jumpy;
• Poor concentration and attention; hyperactivity;
• Insomnia and other sleep problems;
In addition to mainstream clients, Dr Reza Nejad provides culturally sensitive psychological help to culturally and linguistically diverse clients. He speaks English, Persian/Dari and Turkish/Azeri.
MEL OPOZDA Health Psychologist
Mel Opozda is a Health Psychologist with an interest in all aspects of healthy weight practices and eating behaviors, psychological difficulties related to health conditions, management of chronic health conditions, pain management and grief and loss. She also works with clients experiencing stress, depression and anxiety disorders.
